News For February 28, 2024

Credit for Caring Act of 2024 (S. 3702)

The Credit for Caring Act of 2024 is a bipartisan initiative aimed at supporting approximately 70 million Americans who provide financial care for family members. These caregivers play a crucial role within our healthcare community.

As of this writing (February 25, 2024), the Credit for Caring Act of 2024 is in the legislative process.  It was introduced in the 118th Congress by Senator Michael F. Bennet on January 31, 2024.  If passed, the bill would provide a nonrefundable federal tax credit to working family caregivers who incur caregiving expenses exceeding $2,000 during the taxable year.   The credit would cover 30% of qualified expenses up to a maximum of $5,000.  For taxable years beginning after 2024, the dollar amount may be adjusted for inflation.  The bill has been referred to the Committee on Finance.

Integrative Wellness

A fundamental premise of the Caregiver Coalition Fund of America is to support the wellness of family caregivers through the formulation of holistic approaches that address the immediate and long-term needs of caregivers.  It is through such an approach that CareCFA’s Family Caregiver Integrative Wellness Division offers programs devoted to helping family caregivers meet their self-care needs and to promote sustainable well-being.  As a result of this philosophy, CareCFA’s Family Caregiver Integrative Wellness Division has adopted the defining principles of Duke University’s Integrative Medicine Program.  These principles are paraphrased as follows:

  • Family caregivers and practitioners are partners in promoting and sustaining wellness.
  • Factors that influence wellness are taken into consideration.
  • The promotion of wellness considers the whole person, including body, mind and spirit in the context of the Care Community.
  • Practitioners utilize appropriate sciences to facilitate the individual’s promotion of wellness.
  • Practitioners promote the utilization of holistic interventions that are natural and are as noninvasive as possible in the promotion of wellness.
  • CareCFA’s Family Caregiver Integrative Wellness Division is evidence-based and opens new models promoting wellness.
  • The promotion of wellness is individualized to meet the caregiver’s unique needs and circumstances.
  • Practitioners that promote caregiver wellness adhere to the above-mentioned principles and engage in self-exploration and self-development.
